Alwood Sisters: News

Alwood Sisters curate group art show!! - February, 2010

Most gallery-hoppers are used to the normal openings showcasing one or more artist's work each month. Local musicians and artists Amy and Meagan Alwood have created an alternative to that norm that will begin it's one month exhibition on Saturday, February 6th. "Trick Faces" will be a collection of 30+ paper mache masks that have been adorned individually by different working and non-working artists alike out of Columbus as well as other US cities. The exhibition is meant to conjure up insight, intrigue and interest into the minds of all who wander in as well as serve as a bond for the artistic community. Ideally, it will allow the artist and observer to be entertained as well as explore the unleashed creativity. The group of people chosen for this collaborative effort consists of photographers, musicians, self-taught, non-taught and fine art students. The show opens Saturday February 6th, 7 p.m.  at Sovereign Collective at 1042 N. High Street.

Peloton Records Holiday Party

Friday, 8 p.m., the Shelf

Big Back 40 musician Steve McGann promised a collective atmosphere for working musicians when he founded locally based Peloton Records last summer, and he’s followed through with regular bookings featuring alt-country heavy lineups like this weekend’s artist showcase. The BYOB holiday show will feature the Alphabet, Moon High, Nathan Snell and the Alwood Sisters. In addition, musicians Meagan and Milan Alwood-Karcic and sister Amy Alwood will have artwork on display, as will Kate McDevitt. The Shelf is located at 57 E. Gay St. Suggested donation: $5.

Spin Magazine graciously named Gaunt one of the best 100 bands you've never heard in their August 2009 issue. Read the blurb (scroll through the pages and click on page 71) and Gaunt!

We've also recently begun adding links to our site.  If you would like us to add your site to our links page, let us know at alwood@alwoodsisters.com.
